Tsukikage Project started at 2005. It is a renovation project in which an elementary school has been converted into a hostel, because this school was closed down due to the declining number of students - as is often the case in Japan. In this project, university students and professors from Japan Womens’ University, Hosei University, Waseda University, and Yokohama National University have participated since 2005.
In the first 2 or 3 Years, our main work was to design the renovation and to supervise the construction work. After completion of the main construction work, students became more actively involved with this project, e. g, putting on and taking off the Yukigakoi on the building façade, which are wooden louvers to protect the building from snow.
Also some improvement projects have been done in these 5 years, including converting the classrooms, which were not done in the first renovation stage, to a small museum for traditional farm tools. These are based on respect for local tradition.
