A press release was issued regarding a joint research paper with a research group led by Professor Tomoko Shinomura of Teikyo University.

A research group led by Professor Tomoko Shinomura of Teikyo University, in collaboration with Akari Masaki, a first-year doctoral student at Utsunomiya University, Professor Noriko Nagata, Professor Hiroyuki Sekimoto of Japan Women's University, and Dr. Yuki Tsuchikane of the same university, analyzed the effects of light irradiation on the asexual reproduction of the colonial green alga, Pediastrum duplex, and the results were published in the Journal of Plant Research on August 20, 2024. In this study, physiological experiments and transcriptome analysis showed that light irradiation is essential for inducing colonial growth, and that part of the asexual reproductive cycle proceeds through the expression of photosynthesis-related genes. It is expected that these results will lead to an elucidation of the control of the asexual reproductive cycle not only in Pediastrum duplex but also in other species of green algae.
